The Writer’s Summit course is designed for students entering Grades 7 to 9. In this course, practiced writers refine the rhetorical skills and expand the vocabulary necessary for successful and purposeful writing. Students will practice and revise research reviews and personal narratives. Additionally, students will review the building blocks of language, including parts of speech, clauses, and sentence structure, in order to reinforce strong foundations for effective prose.

The Foundations for Geometry part 2 course is designed for students entering Geometry in the fall and have a foundational understanding of algebraic terms, evaluating expressions and ordered paris and can apply the basic formulas for solving problems involging perimeter and ara of trinagles, quadrilaterals, and circles or have taken the Foundation for Geometry part 1 course.
Spanish Level II

The Spanish level 2 course is designed for students with level 1 Spanish or students who completed the Spanish foundations 2 course at Summer Academy with Congressional School. The students will be working with authentic Spanish materials in different formats, such as music, works of art, short readings and podcasts. The course will continue to develop the four skills necessary in the learning of any language such as reading, listening, writing and speaking. Upon completion of this course, students will be required to take an oral and written exam.

The Youth Leadership Institute II is designed for students entering Grades 7 and 8 interested in developing personal, organizational, and community leadership skills. The institute provides participants with the opportunity to identify unique strengths and passions, enhance self-image and self-confidence, and develop key leadership skills such as advocacy, goal setting, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and cultural competency.The Youth Leadership institute aims to equip students to be change agents in their academic communities, learn how to be positive influences on those around them, and develop skills for identifying opportunities to lead.

The Writer’s Climb course is designed for students entering Grades 7 to 8. In this course, evolving writers develop the rhetorical skills and vocabulary necessary for clear and purposeful writing. Students will plan, draft and revise persuasive and scientific writing. Additionally, students will review the building blocks of language, including parts of speech, types of phrases, and types of clauses, in order to construct strong foundations for effective prose.

The Math Facts and STEAM is a 1/2 day program designed for students entering Grades 2 in the fall. Students will keep their math skills sharp and build strong number sense. The STEAM portion of the program will develop critical thinking skills for problem solving using reasoning and pattern-recognition.

The Math Jungle & STEM is a 1/2 day program designed for students entering Grades 3 in the fall. Students will practice review key mathematics concepts participating in a variety of activities to develop logical thinking. Using project based learning, the STEM portion of the program will help students gain a better grasp of deductive reasoning and promote critical and creative thinking strategies.

The Math Explorer II course is designed for students entering Grades 4 in the fall. The Writer’s Workshop course is designed for students entering grades 5 this Fall. Students will practice examining, explaining, and defending claims to strengthen their written expression. In the Writing for Meaning course, students will be introduced to academic language and vocabulary, review advanced concepts of grammar, and editing strategies to plan, draft, and revise their own essays, as well as creative writing pieces, based on reading responses to varied mentor texts and reading materials.

Writer’s Workshop students review grammar, sentence formation, paragraph construction, and editing strategies to increase their writing fluency and written communication skills with a strong focus on furthering developing their writing voice.

The Colt’s Math II course is designed for students entering Grades 5 and 6. Students will review key concepts to better understand the “why” behind mathematical operations. Students will learn essential mathematical problem-solving tactics such as pattern recognition, working backwards, and invariance. Colt’s Math II will challenge students to explore the deeper concepts beyond the processes and procedures and to think strategically to arrive at mathematical solutions to extend their thinking into the early concepts and skills for their next level mathetical instruction.

Geology & Gems: This hands-on science program will explore the fundamental concepts of Earth Science. Students will learn the principal categories of rock classification: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. We will also participate in a simulated fossil dig, model volcanoes, geocaching, and other interactive projects.
Star Lab: Get ready for a journey that’s out of this world! Campers will embark on a mission to the outer reaches of the solar system. They’ll be star struck with Orion, Cassiopeia, and the Big Dipper as they learn where these star stories originated. Discover why stars seem to twinkle, how asteroids made history, and where the Milky Way can take us. This camp is sure to be a universe of fun!
