About the role
Day Camp Counselors create a safe, fun, and memorable summer experience for campers. As the primary group leaders, you’ll run daily schedules, lead activities, mentor Junior Counselors, and model our camp values, ensuring every camper feels included, supported, and excited to come back each day.

Responsibilities

• Lead a group of campers through daily activities, transitions, and special events; set a positive, inclusive tone for the group.
• Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities in accordance with camp goals and guidelines.
• Supervise, coach, and collaborate with assigned Junior Counselors.
• Proactively support camper needs, including social–emotional, medical, and behavioral considerations.
• Meet or exceed American Camp Association (ACA) practices and Virginia licensing standards.
• Monitor risk and uphold safety: identify and report hazards/maintenance issues; complete incident/accident reports as directed.
• Support swimming time, field trips, arrival/dismissal, lunch, and lead group transitions
• Communicate professionally and promptly with camp leadership regarding camper concerns.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with children in camp, school, or youth programs.
• Strong group leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• High-energy, team-oriented, and adaptable in outdoor/indoor settings.
• Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification (or able to obtain before starting and maintain for the duration of employment).

Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of employment and able to pass required background checks.
