Position Title: Great Adventures Program Director
Location: Congressional Camp, Falls Church, VA
Age Group: Rising Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten (Ages 3–5)
Reports To: Camp Director
Position Summary:
The Great Adventures Program Director oversees all aspects of the Congressional Camp’s Great Adventures Program, designed specifically for young campers aged 3–5. This position is responsible for the safety, development, and enrichment of campers through a dynamic and nurturing summer experience that balances play-based learning, outdoor exploration, and creative expression. The Director leads and supports a team of counselors, develops weekly thematic curriculum, and ensures a structured and positive environment that aligns with the values and mission of Congressional Camp.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a developmentally appropriate, fun, and engaging summer curriculum tailored for young learners.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide ongoing support to Great Adventures counselors and staff.
- Foster a warm, inclusive environment that supports social-emotional growth and early learning.
- Oversee daily operations of the program, including schedules, camper transitions, and safety procedures.
- Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and the Camp Leadership Team.
- Monitor camper behavior, health, and emotional well-being, intervening and adapting plans as needed.
- Coordinate with specialists (swim, arts, nature, etc.) to integrate program activities smoothly.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and camper notes.
- Participate in all required training and camp meetings before and during the summer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be able to commit to the majority of the summer season (including all staff trainings).
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with preschool or kindergarten-aged children, especially in a leadership role.
- Strong organizational, communication, and team-building skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification
