About the role
Travel Camp Counselors chaperone off-campus adventures for older campers. You’ll deliver daily itineraries planned by the Travel Programs Coordinator, leading headcounts, supervision, and smooth logistics so each trip is safe, on time, and fun.

Responsibilities

  • Execute trip schedules as directed by the Travel Programs Coordinator; manage group movement, timing, and transitions.
  • Lead proactive supervision: buddy system, frequent headcounts, clear meeting points, and radio/phone check-ins.
  • Coordinate boarding/deboarding on buses and vendor entry (tickets, wristbands, waivers) per camp procedures.
  • Uphold safety protocols at venues (site rules, boundaries, hydration/shade, heat index/cold weather guidance).
  • Support camper needs, including social–emotional and basic health considerations; follow care plans and medication procedures per policy.
  • Maintain professional communication with campers, staff, vendors, and families, model inclusive, positive behavior.
  • Prepare and reset trip materials (rosters, emergency cards, first-aid kit, signage); keep spaces tidy and gear accounted for.
  • Identify and report hazards/maintenance issues; complete incident/accident reports accurately and promptly.
  • Meet or exceed ACA practices and Virginia child day program licensing standards.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medication Administration Training (MAT) certified or able to obtain before the season
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR (or able to obtain and maintain throughout employment).
  • Experience supervising youth on trips (camp, school, clubs) with strong group-management and communication skills.
  • Organized, calm under pressure, and attentive to detail (rosters, headcounts, timing).
  • Comfortable outdoors and on your feet for extended periods; able to carry program supplies/coolers.

Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of employment and able to pass required background/screening checks per School and Virginia regulations.
