About the role Junior Counselors support Day Camp Counselors in creating a fun, inclusive, and safe experience for campers. This is a great leadership opportunity for rising high school juniors and seniors to build skills in teamwork, communication, and youth development while assisting with daily activities and group supervision.
Responsibilities
Assist Counselors in leading campers through daily schedules, activities, and transitions.
Facilitate a limited number of age-appropriate activities in line with camp guidelines.
Help ensure camper safety and inclusion; recognize and accommodate individual needs and follow provided plans.
Meet or exceed American Camp Association (ACA) practices and Virginia child day program licensing standards.
Identify and promptly report hazards, maintenance issues, and safety concerns to the appropriate staff.
Support arrival/dismissal, lunch, swim time, field trips, and special events as directed.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with children (camp, school, volunteering, babysitting, coaching, or similar).
Positive, high-energy teammate with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Reliable, coachable, and calm under pressure; receptive to feedback.
Commitment to inclusion and supportive group management.
Eligibility: Rising high-school junior or senior and able to meet required background/screening checks per Virginia regulations.
