Summer Academy
Morning enrichment that keeps skills sharp all summer long.
Summer Academy at Congressional School offers optional morning enrichment classes Monday-Thursday for campers enrolled in Congressional Camp. Taught by Congressional School faculty, these sessions focus on strengthening reading, writing, and math skills in a supportive, low-pressure setting. There are no formal assessments as the goal of the program is to keep academic skills fresh and build grade-level confidence over the summer.
Two session times are offered: 8:00–9:00 AM and 9:15–10:15 AM. Campers who attend the second session will miss their first scheduled camp activity block.
Summer Academy is designed to complement the broader camp experience and is not a stand-alone program; as such, campers must also be enrolled in either the Great Adventures or Day Camp program in order to participate. All Summer Academy classes take place at Congressional School.
This structure allows campers to participate in focused academic enrichment while remaining fully engaged in a complete summer camp day.

What is the Summer Academy?
Summer Academy is an optional enrichment program offered in conjunction with Congressional Day Camp. Campers spend one hour each day in a small-group academic class led by a Congressional School teacher. The goal is to keep academic skills strong: particularly in reading, writing, and math, while campers enjoy the full Congressional Camp experience.
Who can participate in Summer Academy?
Summer Academy is open to campers in rising Jr. Kindergarten – 3rd Grade and enrolled in either our Great Adventures or Day Camp program. It is designed to complement the broader camp experience and is not offered as a stand-alone program.
Unfortunately, campers enrolled in our Specialty Camp at Sleepy Hollow Elementary are not eligible to participate.
How large are the classes?
All Summer Academy classes are intentionally kept small, with no more than six students in each group. This allows for individualized support, meaningful teacher-student connections, and strong peer collaboration.
When are the classes held?
Summer Academy classes meet for eight days during each camp session. Two time slots are available:
- 8:00–9:00 AM – before camp begins
- 9:15–10:15 AM – during the first camp activity block
Can my child attend Summer Academy without missing camp activities?
Yes. Families may choose the 8:00–9:00 AM session so that campers can fully participate in all camp activities afterward.
If my child attends the 9:15–10:15 session, what will they miss?
Students in the later session will miss one camp activity block. While specific activities vary by day and group, our staff will do their best to ensure campers do not miss out on Congressional favorites.
How will my child get to and from their class?
Summer Academy staff will escort students to and from their camp groups, ensuring a smooth and supervised transition between camp and class.
What subjects are covered in Summer Academy?
Classes focus on maintaining and strengthening core academic skills in reading, writing, and math. Lessons are engaging and low-pressure, there are no formal assessments, and aim to build confidence for the upcoming school year.
