The CIT Program
The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program gives rising 10th graders hands-on experience leading campers. They are supported by mentors, training, and a community that believes in you.
About the CIT Program
CITs are the bridge between camper and counselor. You’ll shadow experienced staff, help lead activities, and learn how to create a safe, inclusive, and exciting camp day. Along the way, you’ll build confidence, communication, and real leadership skills you’ll use well beyond summer.
- Rising 10th graders (current 9th graders)
- Positive role models who enjoy working with younger campers
- Students ready for responsibility, feedback, and teamwork
Note: The CIT Program is a training experience and is unpaid.
- Greet campers and support morning assembly
- Assist counselors and specialists during activity blocks
- Model expectations, encourage participation, and help with transitions
- Support pool time in partnership with lifeguards and counselors
- Help with set-up, clean-up, and end-of-day dismissal routines
You’ll stay active, communicate often, and make a visible difference for kids.
We set you up for success. CITs attend a pre-camp orientation focused on safety, inclusion, and behavior support, then receive on-the-job coaching from Lead Counselors and division leadership. Check-ins and end-of-session feedback highlight your strengths and next steps.
- Time Commitment: CITs are expected to commit to at least 4 weeks during the summer. Longer availability is encouraged and helps you get the most from the program.
- Age Requirements: Rising 10th Grade Student
- Schedule: Weekdays during camp hours (arrive before drop-off; stay through dismissal).
- Reliability: Consistent, daily attendance is essential for your group and your own growth.
- Expectations: Be enthusiastic, dependable, and kind; follow camp policies; model safe choices; be open to feedback and willing to try again.
- Environment: You should be comfortable outdoors and at the pool, supporting campers in all areas of camp life.
