About the role
Great Adventures (GA) serves rising Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten campers in a classroom-based setting. GA Counselors deliver daily routines and activities planned by the Great Adventures Program Director, focusing on warm, developmentally appropriate care, smooth transitions, and a playful, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily GA activity blocks as directed by the GA Program Director (morning meeting, centers, crafts, indoor/outdoor play, story time, rest/quiet time).
  • Maintain constant supervision and positive group management; model routines and social–emotional skills.
  • Prepare classroom materials, set up/clean up activity areas, and keep spaces organized and sanitized.
  • Monitor safety (playground and classroom); identify and report hazards or maintenance issues; complete incident/accident reports as directed.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with the GA Program Director and camp leadership; maintain confidentiality.
  • Coordinate with assigned Junior Counselors for smooth transitions, role clarity, and inclusive participation.
  • Support arrival/dismissal, snack/lunch procedures, and indoor/ outdoor transitions per GA procedures.
  • Meet or exceed ACA practices and Virginia child day program licensing standards.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with early childhood groups (ages 4–6) in camp, classroom, childcare, or recreation settings.
  • Clear, patient communicator and team collaborator; calm and responsive under pressure.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR (or able to obtain before the season and maintain throughout employment).
  • Organized and safety-minded; comfortable indoors/outdoors and moving classroom/play equipment.

Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of employment and able to pass required background/screening checks per School and Virginia regulations.
