About the role
Yoga Counselors lead age-appropriate yoga and mindfulness sessions that are playful, safe, and inclusive. You’ll handle planning, prep, instruction, and breakdown for daily yoga blocks while partnering with Day Camp staff to keep transitions smooth and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate yoga sessions tailored to age and ability (warm-ups, poses, games, breathwork, relaxation).
  • Create a welcoming environment; use verbal/visual cues for alignment.
  • Manage safety: check space and props, uphold spacing and flow, offer modifications/alternatives, and observe health needs or restrictions shared by leadership.
  • Model mindfulness and emotional regulation strategies (breathing, grounding, short, guided rest).
  • Set up/clean up mats and props; follow sanitation protocols and organize storage; track inventory and request supplies within budget/approval.
  • Monitor environment (heat/hydration, indoor ventilation); identify and report hazards or maintenance issues; complete incident/accident reports as directed.
  • Meet or exceed ACA practices and Virginia child day program licensing standards.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading youth yoga or movement (camp, school, studio, PE, recreation).
  • Kids-yoga training/certification or a strong background in adapting yoga for children is a plus.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR (or able to obtain before the season and maintain throughout employment).
  • Clear, upbeat communicator with excellent group management; calm and safety-minded.
  • Knowledge of inclusive and adaptive practices; ability to modify for varied abilities and comfort levels.
  • Organized and reliable; comfortable working indoors/outdoors and moving/lightly lifting props.

Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of employment and able to pass required background checks per Virginia regulations.
